Mantras are Sanskrit hymns used by Buddhists and Hindus as incantations of devotion and reflection. The words 'om namah shivaya' literally mean 'I bow to Shiva' but is generally translated into its essential rather than literal meaning as 'I bow to the inner self' or 'I honor the self within'. The inscription has been engraved in relief, on a soft concave cuff bracelet with a delicately matted finish. On the reverse the mantra is transliterated into Roman characters, as it would be said when chanting.
